New Teaching Resources

Check out Ms. Henry Wikispaces to see my first attempt at using Apture, a multimedia screen capture program that adds intensity to websites, and wikispaces. I started with posting the vision and mission of the school and selected a word to highlight. Click Ms. Henry Wikispaces to see which word I selected.

Click on to catch the latest teaching resources about science. Yes I used Apture here also so that you can see some of the visual and reference connections.

There is also a list of 25 - count them - 25 projects that can be applied to any subject area.

Click on the school website: Ralph R. McKee High School. Once you get there go to the tab on left that says Staff and scroll down to Teaching Resources and see the enhanced, updated list of subject specific resources.

Happy Holidays from the PTA

The Parent/Teacher's Organization sat down to sandwiches, soda, and plenty of scrumptious cookies.

As they sat they talked about the following for 2009:
1. Parents - did you know that you can reach every single teacher by clicking onto the school website to see their email and blogs? Click on
2. Students need to take four years of math.
3. Parents need to stand up and make their voices heard.
4. Room 121 is the place for parents to come and talk, and get the latest skills on technology and school news.
5. Parent involvement needs to happen from freshmen year right through the entire 4, that's right, 4 years of high school.
6. Parents should drop off their emails so that the PTA and school can get in contact with them on a regular basis. The lead contact is Mary McVey, the Parent Coordinator. Her email is:
7. There is a need for a school PTA bulletin. Anyone wishing to give information or has any concerns or issues addressed should write in. There could even be a section called, "Ask the Principal!" Stay tuned - you might see the PTA with their own blog: Parent Power.

Mr. Pigis' Cisco Students Do A "Jing"

Click on the title and see how Mr. Pigis is having his CISCO students be responsible for demonstrating their learning of the content from his course by doing a Jing. Today, one team of students made a separate blog called CISCO MADE EASY. Click on the words CISCO MADE EASY and check out their Jing.

Ah, you ask, what is Jing? For a detailed answer, just click on the word Jing. Did you click on it? You should. I'll wait. Here's the word again, Jing.

See how easy it is to have your students show others what they know about a particular subject. It is so cool.

So you know what is going to happen next. The students will be teaching all of us how to do a Jing. More importantly, it is a great, interactive, technology driven, strategy in which students are responsible for showing what they know.
