SJU and CSI Avid Tutors Report to McKee 2.4.16

Every semester, Ms. Mullen, (far right), Assistant Principal of Humanities and AVID Coordinator,
meets with approximately 10-15 college students involved in either education, social service or community works, to become AVID tutors.  The picture above just shows the first group of tutors, three from SJU and two from College of Staten Island (CSI). These young people learn the art of facilitating small group discussions so that the students in the AVID elective (think advisory) classes are able to explain the point of confusion he/she experienced in a subject area class. The tutors, and the group of students, help the student to look at resources and critically find the answer that will help clear up the point of confusion.
